This 1927 black & white press photo “shows Mrs. George B. St. George with her blue ribbon winner Airel .” Taken at the 8th Tuxedo Junior Horse Show in Tuxedo New York. In the photo, Mrs. St. George sits atop Airel holding a trophy cup in her arms. In the background, we can see an elegant automobile parked on the grass.
The significance of this photo is that the rider is a significant American political figure. At this time, Mrs. St. George was a member of town board of Tuxedo Park. 20 years later, St. George was elected as a Republican to Congress in New York, where she served 9 terms. During that time, she sponsored or voted for nearly every major civil rights legislation before Congress. At the time she was elected, she was approximately the 40th woman to serve in Congress.
Photo is in excellent condition, although it does have a few tiny creases/bumps at the borders—corners & edges. Labeled and dated on the back. See photos for final word on condition.
