Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia Stiha learned to draw and paint from his father. Following the invasion of Yugoslavia during World War II, he fled with his wife to Buenos Aires, where he developed an impressionistic style. After ten years in Argentina, he relocated to Sao Paulo, operating a studio and art school across from the American Embassy, whose Consul offered the Stihas American citizenship. They eventually settled in Santa Fe, opening a gallery in the historic La Fonda Hotel in 1971.
