Where humidors were made in an endless variety of shapes and forms, the animals are the ones that have retained their popularity, Original condition the sponge in the lid for the humidor is newer not original it can be removed or kept in place. Wear is consistent with age in history of the peace. Material, Majolica Animal Humidors Ceramic Period: Victorian majolica pottery pig carrying her three little ones piggy-back style! Probably made in either Germany or the UK, this is a finely crafted, RARE ceramic piece in unusually excellent condition for its age.
No cracks, does have flea bites and chips on the edge of lid & base, has great color and details.
Collectors will not want to let this one go!
Majolica Animal Humidors
Austrian Humidor One of the hottest areas of collecting in majolica is in majolica animal humidors. These charming pieces were made by several different companies on the European continent, largely in Germany, Austria, France and Czechoslovakia. They were meant to be both useful and decorative with all of them allowing for the placement of a sponge in the lid to keep the tobacco moist.
