I believe this fish is a Chinook salmon and that the material used is jet. However, it is unsigned and I am not its original owner. So I may be off on the origin and material and, given the presumed subject, I wonder if it might actually be an argillite carving from Haida. Given that it lacks any signature marking and lacks the types of detail typically seen on Haida carvings, I think that is somewhat unlikely. Regardless, it is an interesting hand carved fish that was collected by a previous owner who had a passion for Zuni fetishes.Measurements - Length: 5 1/2"
