Offered is a beautiful and unusual Chinese woodblock print. After Ma Lin (Chinese c 1180-1256), stormy waves by moonlight, highlighted with gold threads. The sheet is 9.5" X 11.25", with unevenly cut margins, with a small chip upper right and minor creasing on the edges. The visible printed surface is 9" wide X 10" high and is recently matted in a modern 19" X 17" black lacquer frame. The date of this pressing is unknown. I have tried to show that the entire outline of this print is recessed from the pressing and not trimmed to this shape, which indicates to me that the woodblocks themselves were in this exact outline, as incredible as that seems. The applied gold threads are incredible, although difficult to photograph they will not disappoint.In the beautiful condition shown with any damage or imperfection described and shown in the photos.
