VINTAGE!! RARE!!

This is USGS Bulletin 920, Pre-Cambrian Geology and Mineral Resources of the Delaware Water Gap and Easton Quadrangles, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.Published in 1941, this is a scarce old report. It consists of the 98-page book and the original large full-color geologic map, plus a foldout map bound into the text. This is a very interesting area with numerous old mines. Prospects and mines discussed in this book include:

Ahles mine

Washington mine

Durham mine

Barton, Kaiser, West End, and Swayze mines

Titaniferous magnetite mines

Marble Mountain mine

Titman prospect

Williams Shaft

Shoemaker mine

Orchard mine

Raub mine

Weldon mine (with fold-out level map)!

And Others!

Some of the mines were two hundred years old when this was written, so this is an important historical document as well as a good reference on the area’s mineralogy and mines. Minerals found in some of the area’s mines include:

Augite

Biotite

Calcite

Chlorite

Epidote

Feldspar

Fluorite

Ferrohornblende

Garnet

Hematite

Limonite

Magnetite

Microcline

Oligoclase

Pyrolusite

Rutile

Sericite

Tourmaline

Sphalerite

And others!

This is a great book on an area rich in history and geology. The color map is really beautiful, and is done in an older style that looks really cool. It would look great framed and hung in a home or business in the area.

BONUS: I am including this report as well, which overlaps the same area:USGS Bulletin 1244-H, The Martinsburg Formation (Middle and Upper Ordovician) in the Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania-New Jersey. This 16-page booklet was issued without covers in 1967. It discusses the Martinsburg formation, and how mapping in the area of eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey showed it could be divided into three sub-units or members. Some interesting photos are provided in the text. The sub-units are described. A nice addition to the geology of the region and a good accompaniment to the other report.

Expert packing assured. Shipping weight is seven ounces. Media Mail is provided to save you a bit.
