. There is something about finding acypraea helvolaundera small piece of dead coral that just takes your breath away. The shellseems to glow in the water, angels begin to sing, and before you know it,you're singing too! Almost all of the hevolas I've collected in Hawaiiwere found in that way, just sitting there in 12 inches of water under a smallrock, at a place I could only get to at low tide. My favorite spotwasa large slab of dead coral at Sandy Beach that was a pain to lift up(and often exciting, since moray eelsalsoliked to hide underthe same large slab) but checking under that slab was almost always worth theeffort---helvolas, maculiferas, isabellas, monetas, pennaceusconesin the sand and more were all found under that same slab over theyears.

. Thisshell however, was found in a place that just recently has been producing some terrific shells---Indonesia. I mean, when I read about the greatshells found there, it reminds me of Fort Kam reef on Oahu, a wonderful place that everyoneelsegot to go collecting at but me! Anyhow, this very glossy beauty found at low tide under apiece of dead coral at Lombok Island, Indonesia, 2021, is, as the video shows, one of the finest helvolas I have ever seen, a gorgeous ultra-GEM niger that will lookterrificsittingon your shelf!

As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, butcolor is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towardsflesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on showup with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, anddamm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest!
