* BADGE of the NATIONALIST LEGION of UKRAINE 1939 ( bronze, German production, diameter 45mm ). It depicts a sword on a trident and bears the inscription : " Glory to Ukraine " ... EXTREMELY RARE !!! NO MORE THAN 280 PIECES RELEASED IN AUGUST 1939. Each badge is numbered - this one is marked " 271 ".* VERY GOOD, PATINATED, UNCLEANED CONDITION /// BBH > BergBauernHilfe ( mountain and peasant aid ) - code name of the operational unit of the Abwehr >>> OUN (M) establish in August 1939 to help German army invade Poland. The unit was disbanded on September 28th, 1939 ( only 1 month of operational existence ) and the Abwehr was ordered itself to cease contacts with OUN with the advent of the Molotov / Ribbentrop Pact.
**Auxiliary and sabotage unit created by the Germans (it was planned to form two battalions of 280 people each, but on September 1, 1939, only 280 people joined the fight). They consisted mainly of Ukrainians ( Polish citizens), supporters of Andriy Melnyk's OUN(M), often former soldiers or officers of the Polish army. entered the war against Poland in Czech infantry uniforms, a month later, as a result of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, the Germans disbanded this unit, and the former soldiers were sent to serve in the Werkschutz in arms factories captured by German troops in Poland - in Starachowice, Skarżysko-Kamienna and Stalowa Wola / the rest went to defend the railway in Bahnschutz units. Almost all of them returned to fight the Soviets in summer 1941 as part of two battalions, Nachtigall and Roland, and took part in the capture of the Lviv Oblast. and were the only Ukrainian armed force at the time when Yaroslav Stetsko declared Ukrainian independence in Lviv on june, 30th '41.
