A well modelled scratch built metal model of an American B17 Flying Fortress that may well be USAF WW2 trench art
I have come across one very similar to this before, a B17 made in the 1940's & likely WW2 trench art, possibly American made.
This example was found in the late 1950's in an abandoned locker at RAF Duxford by a young man starting his national service with the RAF. He then gifted it to has son in 1960 where it remained until it came into my possession very recently.Everything is as it was when he was given it, which is a little confusing. The tail & fuselage numbers are that of the famous "Memphis Belle" B17 flying fortress yet it has British roundels
Historically RAF Duxford was home to the USAF 78th flight group, bomber escort during WW2 & Duxford is on the doorstep "so to speak" of RAF Bassingbourn which was where the Memphis Belle was stationed during her very early operations.
The model may well be from this era & at some point in the 1950's it was overpainted, this is evident by the decals which are very likely Airfix model decals, not available until the early 1950's
Whether it is WW2 trench art or 1950's it still remains a well modelled, well made & unique example of Air Force trench art
