154 (unnumbered) pages which includes 9 seemingly hand coloured plates showing slightly romanticised (and occasionally risqué) ancient Egyptian scenes. The plates are confusingly either unnumbered or numbered, with the penultimate being numbered 11, so there may have originally been 12 plates contained in the diary so completeness cannot be guaranteed even though nothing immediately appears missing. Faux (paper over thin card) crocodile skin covers impressed with Egyptian emblems and inside with an odd mixture of ancient Egyptian and traditional French 1920’s styling. A few brief handwritten notes inside suggests the original owner may have been a convalescing French soldier.

Approx. 190x225mm., one plate torn and with light loss at the foot, well clear of the image, some light grime and occasional wear, though overall in good condition and quite sound.
