Trent, ITALY - Piazza Dante: Trento is a city on the Adige River in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in Italy. It is the capital of the autonomous province of Trento. In the 16th century, the city was the location of the Council of Trent. Formerly part of Austria and Austria-Hungary, it was annexed by Italy in 1919. The Monument to Dante di Trento is a sculptural group dedicated to Dante Alighieri , a work by the Florentine artist Cesare Zocchi , located in the park in front of the railway station . It was built as a symbol of the Italian language and of the Italian character of the city in 1896 when Trentino was the territory of the County of Tyrol , in the Austro-Hungarian Empire . Guglielmo Ranzi had the idea of a Monument to Dante as early as 1886 , on the occasion of the foundation of the Pro Patria company in Rovereto , then under the Austro-Hungarian administration, but then he abandoned it. In 1889 a statue was erected in Bolzano to the German poet Walther von der Vogelweide as a symbol of the Germanic culture of the city and Ranzi presented the idea again, this time obtaining the support of the Podestà of Trento Paolo Oss Mazzurana and engineer Annibale Apollonius to build the statue as a symbol of the linguistic identity of Trento and of the Italian Tyrol. In the perspective of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as a multi-ethnic entity, the Dante Monument had a strong symbolic value; that is, to indicate the peaceful coexistence of the Italian and German language in the County of Tyrol, a land that has always been trilingual (in addition to Italian and German, also the Ladin language), whose population was particularly faithful and linked to the Casa d \' Habsburg. This Divided Back Era (1907-15), sepia-toned postcard is in good condition. Ediz. F. Iii Marco. No. 213:1.
