The Naugatuck River is a 40.2-mile-long river in thestate of Connecticut. Its waters carvedout the Naugatuck River Valley in the western reaches of thestate, flowing generally due south and eventually emptying into the HousatonicRiver at Derby, Connecticut and then 11 miles to Long IslandSound. Waterbury is a city in the state of Connecticut on theNaugatuck River, 33 miles southwest of Hartford and 77 milesnortheast of New York City. Whenthe settlement which was called “Matetacoke” by the Native Americaninhabitants was admitted as the 28thtown in the ConnecticutColony in 1686, the name was changed to Waterbury in reference tothe numerous streams that emptied into the river from the hills on either side ofthe valley. This card, published by the “Hotel Elton, the Most AttractiveHotel in New England” was printed by the “Albertype Co”.and captures the “Naugatuck River, near Waterbury Connecticut”. It is a hand-colored unposted card that is inexcellent condition with no wear and a clean, clear, nicely colored image. The reverses is also clean.
