The Mentor was an American eclectic educational magazine billed as "a wise and faithful guide and friend", published in the early 20th century. Most of the issues were on a distinctive theme, and written by a guest author and the editorial staff of the magazine. The Mentor began in 1913. No issue copyright renewals were found for this serial. The first copyright-renewed contribution is from May 1930. In 1930 it merged with World Traveler magazine to become Mentor-World Traveler, which ended in 1931.
William Sydney Porter (September 11, 1862 – June 5, 1910), better known by his pen name O. Henry, was an American writer known primarily for his short stories, though he also wrote poetry and non-fiction. His works include "The Gift of the Magi", "The Duplicity of Hargraves", and "The Ransom of Red Chief", as well as the novel Cabbages and Kings. Porter's stories are known for their naturalist observations, witty narration, and surprise endings.
