This is a classic Songye Kifwebe mask with highly exaggerated facial features: The eyelids are astoundingly long, the flattened nasal ridge morphs into a tall thin crest, and the squared elongated mouth terminates in criss-crossed lips. Sometimes with Kifwebe masks the mouth tunnel is open and it seems to be \"hooting\". Sometimes bunches of human hair hang out of the nostrils. On this example the head is lightbulb shaped, tapering from an almost round face to the chin (or neck or beard), that almost comes to a point. The foremost characteristic of these masks is the parallel striations, carved grooves that follow the mask\'s contours. This has these in spades. Sometimes the grooves are filled with white kaolin, but not in this case. The surface is left natural. The high fin crest declares this mask to be male. Vision is possible through the eyes and I believe this example to have once been worn and danced. 27\" tall! U.S. buyers please. [Boston Primitive]
I have charged a good amount for shipping, which has gone up a lot. I\'ve taken a bath more than once by under-estimating the cost. I\'m asking for $80 to get this out. The mask is huge. If the shipping actually costs less I will refund the overage.
