RE:Stabilization: Most of the turquoise on the market has been treated in some way to deal with two problems common to this gemstone. First, turquoise is soft, sometimes even brittle, and thus susceptible to fracture. Second, turquoise is porous. As a result, it is susceptible to staining, discoloration and fading.These 2 problems are most commonly managed by stabilizing the turquoise.

The hardness of howlite(the stone mostly used for fake turquoise) is about 3.5 and Turquoise is 5-6 on the Mohs hardness scale. This test will help to determine whether it is real or fake.
