JEFFERSON,THOMAS. (1743-1826). Third President of the United States. Document Signed, “Th. Jefferson”, asPresident, on a fragment of a four-language ship’s passport. One page, largesquare octavo [approximately 8 x 8 inches].New Haven,“9th June”, 1806. Somefolding and edge wear, with mounting traces on verso, else fine condition, with a strong signature of Jefferson. Theportion of the document, is printed in English and Dutch.

The document reads in part: “ThomasJefferson, President of the United States of America, To all who shall seethese presents, Greeting: Be it known, that leave and permission are herebygiven to William Thompson, master or commander of the Schooner called the Resolutionof the burthen of 93 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of NewHaven, bound for St. Bartholomew and laden with Horses, Oxen, Flour, Pork, etc todepart and proceed with his said ship on his said voyage, such ship having beenvisited, and the said master having made oath before the proper officer, thatthe said ship belongs to one or more of the citizens of the United States ofAmerica, and to him or them only…”
