Description: [Montana] Collection of 75 Glacier National Park Black & White Photographs by T.J. Hileman circa 1930\'s

Collection stored in modern three-ring binder with photos in sleeves. Overall, collection in very good to fine condition. Minor periodic edgewear to margin of some photos. Just a couple have crop marks in margins, while more have cropping instructions written on verso. Most if not, all have either a \"Hileman Glacier Park Photo Shop\" stamp on verso, a \"Glacier National Park Photo by Hileman\" stamp or a manuscript note. Several also have a typed Great Northern Ry press legend glued on the verso. Plus, a handful are also stamped by \"Johnston Publishing\" of Afton, Minnesota. Photos which are dated are from the 1930\'s.

Photo sizes vary throughout the album. There are 42 images about 7 x 11 inches, 27 views which measure 8 x 10 inches, four 5 x 7 prints and two panoramic images about 3 x 10 inches.

T.J. Hileman moved to Kalispell, Montana in 1911 and soon was photographing Glacier National Park, using a large format camera, utilizing a packhorse to transport his gear. He was appointed the official photographer for the Great Northern Railway in 1924. In 1926, Hileman opened a studio and photo-finishing lab in both Glacier Park Lodge and Many Glacier Hotel, catering to tourists.

A nice collection of prints from the photographer synonymous with Glacier National Park.
