Stiffel Northbrook ~ # 1353 ~ Table lamp ~ MCM ~ Hollywood Regency ~ 10 lb ~ 26"Very heavy lamp, 10lbs.Most people say stiffel lamps are solid brass because they do not attract a magnet, but it's actually solid zinc (non-magnetic) with a bronze lacquer, that gives most Stiffel lamps their iconic weight. The downside is that older examples, like this one, exhibit crazing of the surface brass finish. Zinc however does have a similar density to brass, so it still has the weight you would expect of a quality Stifel lamp. It's actually cheaper to use solid but thinner brass that overall weighs less
