Stewart \"Stew\" Albert (1939–2006) was an early member of the Yippies, an anti-Vietnam War political activist, and an important figure in the New Left movement of the 1960s. He regularly worked with senior members of the Weatherman, Black Panthers, SDS and other radical political groups during the Vietnam War. An associate of the Weather Underground, he was instrumental in organizing the escape of Timothy Leary from prison and getting him exile with the Black Panther Party in Algeria in 1972.For his work in the peace movement Albertwas a prominent target of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).
