For sale this week is a wonderful watercolour by the British artist Stanley Lloyd (English, 1881-1954). It is one of several drawings and paintings by the artist I am selling this week. This one painting of a church interior and is titled verso by the daughter who handled her fathers estate, \"A church up the Wye Valley near Salisbury 1921-27.\" The painting is in watercolour and gouache on artist\'s board and measures about 12 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches wide. It weighs approximately 82grams. The watercolor is unsigned, but I guarantee it was painted by Lloyd. It is in fair condition with some folds and creases around the margins as well as minor scratching to the artists board. The image is a strong one and beautifully drawn. Please refer to photographs.

Stanley Lloyd was an artist and illustrator known for his animalpaintings and illustrations. He is probablybest known for his illustrations for Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers series, forwhich he did all the first edition illustrations. He was also very active inthe field of pony book illustration, and the majority of his book illustrationswere for books that featured horses. Hewas the brother of the artist Thomas Ivester Lloyd, and uncle ofJohn Ivester Lloyd. He illustrated for various periodicals and magazines in Londonincluding The Strand Magazine, The London Magazine, and The Quiver. These illustrations and paintings are by descent through the family andsome of the notes written on the back of the paintings and drawings are by hisdaughter. According to his daughter,Lloyd saw service in France during World War I.
