Saint Edith Stein, also known as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, was a remarkable 20th-century figure in the Catholic Church. Born in 1891 in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland), she was a brilliant philosopher and scholar, initially exploring phenomenology under the guidance of philosopher Edmund Husserl. However, she later converted to Catholicism and entered the Discalced Carmelite Order.
Edith Stein\'s life and work were profoundly influenced by her deep spirituality and the horrors of the Holocaust. As a Jewish convert to Catholicism, she became a prominent Catholic thinker. She wrote extensively on topics related to theology, philosophy, and the intersection of faith and reason.
Her life took a tragic turn during World War II when she and her sister Rosa were arrested by the Nazis due to their Jewish heritage and sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. There, Edith Stein was martyred in 1942.
Saint Edith Stein is recognized as a patron saint of a few different causes, including:1. **Converts**: Her journey from Judaism to Catholicism serves as an inspiration for those who undergo spiritual conversions and seek a deeper relationship with God.2. **Martyrs**: Edith Stein\'s sacrifice during the Holocaust makes her a symbol of faith and resilience in the face of persecution.3. **Europe**: She is also considered a patroness of Europe, representing the need for peace, unity, and reconciliation on the continent.
Saint Edith Stein\'s life and writings continue to influence theologians and philosophers, and her legacy stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the pursuit of knowledge even in the most challenging circumstances.
St Benedict Medal - The St. Benedict medal is a sacramental used by Catholics to protect themselves from evil. It is considered a powerful medal that displays the wearer\'s faith in God\'s authority over evil. The medal serves as a form of prayer and allows individuals to bring God into their daily lives. It is donned as a safeguard against Satan and fallen angels. One side of the medal features an important prayer used in the Rite of Exorcism, while the other side has an image of St. Benedict. The Latin words \"Crux s. patris Benedicti\" are placed above the images of the cup and raven. The outer edge of the medal features the Latin words \"Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur,\" which means \"May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death\".
Miraculous Medal on the cross - The Miraculous Medal was originally called the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, but, because of the numerous accounts of miracles by those who wore it, people began to call it the Miraculous Medal, and the name stuck. The Medal is a visual reminder of our salvation through Jesus Christ.
