While I was not able to definitely attribute this engraving, it has all of the hallmarks of an early (c1820) plate from A History of theEarth And Animated Nature by Oliver Goldsmith.*

Printis approx 9\" x 13\".

*The 1st edition ofthis 8-volume work was published in London in 1774. Goldsmith sought to bringtogether in one place all that was known about the planet earth, its plants andanimals, and even its human inhabitants. He had intended to translate Pliny\'s NaturalHistory, but after reading Buffon, he decided that \"the best imitationof the ancients was to write from our own feelings and to imitate nature.\"Goldsmith\'s Animated Nature had over 20 editions into the Victorian eraand served as a popular source of information about the natural world. The workincluded that of the most distinguished British and Foreign Naturalists, embodying, at the time,the most recent discoveries in natural history.
