In his modesty, he describes himself on the title page as follows: \"עבד לעם קדוש על אדמת הקודש...מתגורר כעת בגולה תוך אמוני עם סגולה...\". He authored the work when he was Rav of London.

Gershom Scholem wrote a comment on his copy: על ספר זה אמר המחבר אל ידידי שאול ליברמן, זמן מועט לפני מותו, כאשר נתן לו טופס במתנה, כי עתה אינו מבין אף מלה ממה שכתב בו, אף-על-פי שידע כוונת הדברים כאשר כתב אותם. כך שמעתי מפיו בתשכ\"ו.
