I own an advertising specialty company - now in our 45th year I am happy to report - and worked in the industry for many years prior to establishing my own firm. For many years my best client was what was formerly known as \"The Bell System\". Of course after Judge Green\'s ruling, divestiture occurred and it was later broken up into what was generally called the \"Baby Bells\" - and later morphed into many variations.

So over the years we worked very closely with Western Electric, AT&T, Southern Bell, Bellsouth, Lucent Technologies, OFS, Avaya, etc. I collected many over-run samples, one-or-a-kind spec samples, and the likes. I am now selling much of that collection via .
I have been searching through old samples and over-runs of orders I sold to various Bell System entities. And I do have many such samples.
Here are several interesting Southern Bell items from the 1970\'s & \'80\'s.
Details:* SouthernBell was very big on attendance, and we provided many varied awards for outstanding attendance. Here is a very nice quartz travel alarm clock. Features include a snooze alarm. The smartly designed case is in brown with gold trim. On the front is \"Southern Bell Outstanding Attendance\". It is 3.25\" x 2\" and the cover folds back to create the stand. This timepiece comes with a convenient travel case and gift boxed with instructions. I installed a fresh new battery, so you are good to go.Quality made in Taiwan.* We sold S.B. many luggage tags, as many of their employees traveled quite a bit. Here is one in genuinesuede russet leather. One side is branded with the \"Bell\" logo, and the back branded with their slogan of the day -\"The Knowledge Business\" - and of course, the Bell Seal. This useful tag was manufactured in the U.S.A. These luggage tags are designed with a semi-concealed front window. At the time there were disreputable people who would hang around the airport an This was manufactured in the U.S.A.* Anotheritem in suede russet leather from the same supplier, is this nice coaster. The size is 4\" in diameter, and embossed with several Southern Bell products of the day, e.g., Teleprinter 1000, Dataspeed 4540 Terminal, Dataphone II Service, etc. Also made in the U.S.A.* Solid brass luggage tag with leather strap. This is an over-run sample from a project we did in support of the annual \"Presidents Conference\". On the back, we engraved each attendees name. A very quality tag that was made in the U.S.A.* This \"Snap-Out\" photo / weight was used by Southern Bell for some award long ago. The piece is in solid acrylic with a snap off cover. The recipient could then isnert a favorite photo. The S.B. logo is in blue in the lower right corner.* We sold S.B. many custom imprinted golf balls. This one features the Bell Seal on one pole and a Touch Tone desk phone on the other. The ball is a MacGregor, imprinted by Park Industries in Tennessee.* In 1980, Southern Bell initiated a program called - \"Up Front \'80\". I do not recall the purpose of the program, but perhaps an old-time S.B. employee knows. To kick off the event, S.B. used this nice Sheaffer \"Reminder Clip\" ballpoint pen. The reason the style was called \"Reminder Clip\" is that to expelthe point or retract it, one had to press the clip, and in doing so remembered how to insert into ones pocket - with the point retracted. Made in Ft. Madison, WI.And speaking of writing instruments- For a brief time, S.B. had what were called \"Bell Phone Centers\". Here is an over-run example of a Ritepoint pen sold to them. It was made in the U.S.A. also. Note regarding the pens - As these still contain the original refills, if used rather than displayed, a new refill is needed - which are readilyavailable.* Balloons were another item we sold to S.B. Here are 4 in blue with the Bell Seal in white. As these are rather old, while they do inflate, not sure for how long... U.S.A. made.One of my favorite inexpensive gifts was this handy gripper. Also U.S.A. made.* Safety was another important area for S.B. Here is a cute program support gift - a multi game set. If features playing cards, chips, dice and rules for a variety of games. The top imprint slogan was - \"Don\'t Gamble With Safety - Sooner Or Later You Will Lose\" - and the Bell System Seal in the center. The case and most of the components were U.S.A. made.* And the final unusual Southern Bell gift is a photo frame, and here is the story - Mr. B. Frank Skinner was then President of Southern Bell. Mr. Skinner was a strong proponent of employee recognition. S.B. initiated a program called \"Spotlight On Excellence\" to recognize those who went above and beyond. A certificate was presented to those chosen, and a photo taken of the presentation. That phot was then inserted in this custom frame. As you can see, the frame has Mr. skinner\'s signature along with the ExecutiveV.P. signature. The size is 8\" x 10\" and in stainless aluminum. Made in U.S.A.
This assortment of items are a great opportunity for anyone who was affiliated with Southern Bell or perhaps collects old telephone memorabilia. Surprisingly enough , almost all were made in the U.S.A.!!! They will be well packed to insure safe arrival.
