Sonja Henie was a movie and figure skating superstar circa 1938 when she performed two November nights at the Polar Palace in Hollywood, CA. The person who attended the show was obviously a big fan, not only saving this 16-page program—theme color: icy blue—but using it as a folder for a big batch of magazine and newspaper clips about the actress-athlete. Some images of Henie were cut out so precisely, they nearly seem 3-D! The fan obviously found Henie an inspiration, a three-time Olympic champion who made the cover of \'Time.\'
The Norwegian Henie was credited for introducing dance choreography and sexy outfits to figure skating, which may help explain why Adolf Hitler invited her to lunch at his resort home in 1936, just after the Olympic Games in Germany. To the disgust of many, the 24-year-old agreed. Henie later tried to downplay the visit in a memoir, but that\'s not an impression that easily melts away.
She retired in the mid-1950s after marrying her third husband, a shipping magnate and major art collector. Together, they founded an art museum in Oslo, a year before she died at 57 of leukemia in 1969.
