LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL COLISEUM

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is a historic sports venue located in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Built in 1923, the Coliseum has a storied history and has been the home to various sports teams and major events over the years.

While the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is most renowned as the longtime home of the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans football team, it also played a role in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a Major League Baseball (MLB) team.

The Dodgers temporarily called the Coliseum home during their early years in Los Angeles from 1958 to 1961 before moving to Dodger Stadium. Playing baseball in a football stadium presented some unique challenges, notably the short distance to the left-field fence, making it an inviting target for power hitters.

Notable Dodgers players who played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum during this period include:

Sandy Koufax: The Hall of Fame pitcher achieved greatness during his tenure with the Dodgers, and he played at the Coliseum during the team\'s transition to Los Angeles.

Duke Snider: The \"Duke of Flatbush\" was a key outfielder for the Dodgers during their time at the Coliseum, showcasing power and defensive prowess.

Don Drysdale: Another Hall of Fame pitcher, Drysdale, contributed significantly to the Dodgers\' success during their years at the Coliseum.

The Coliseum has a rich history beyond baseball, having hosted two Summer Olympics (1932 and 1984) and serving as a venue for football games, concerts, and other major events. Its iconic peristyle and historic significance make it a revered sports venue in Los Angeles.

While the Dodgers\' time at the Coliseum was relatively short, it is an integral part of the team\'s history as they transitioned from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, ultimately finding their permanent home at Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine.
