Seaview is an Unincorporated community in Pacific County, Washington with a permanent population of 473 people and is a part of the Long Beach urban cluster. In 1859, Jonathan Stout arrived on the Long Beach Peninsula and purchased 153 acres along the ocean front with plans for a summer resort. He built a hotel a few hundred feet from the high tide line with an ocean view across the driftwood which he called Sea View House. Stout recorded his townsite and in 1881 began selling fifty by one hundred feet lots for one hundred dollars. In 1889 the Ilwaco Railway and Navigation Company began regular service on a narrow gauge that ran up the Long beach Peninsula through Seaview. In 1892 a U.S. Senator, Henry Winslow Corbett built a vacation house big enough to become a hotel, which it did in 1930 when it became the Grandview Lodge, now the Sou’wester Lodge, still on the approach to the Seaview beach. The Hotel Shelburne built in 1896 still exists as the Shelburne Country Inn. In 1905 a regular depot, with a long wooden boardwalk that ran along the tracks and past adjoining businesses, replaced the original shack and platform that had been built in 1889. The Seaview depot still stands but is now a restaurant. The historic Shelburne Inn, originally established in 1896 as a retreat for visitors from Portland, has operated continuously since its inception. I could not find any references to the original Sea View House.
Seaview’s beach contributes to the 28-mile-Long Beach which is the longest contiguous in the United States and remains a favorite retreat for summer visitors.
This Real Photo Card captures some of that beach and the Pacific Ocean. It could be any beach with nothing to distinguish it, but it is captioned, “Seaview”. There is attribution in the lower right but cannot determine who. The card is in good condition with minor wear and a clean and clear image. There is some minor staining on the reverse.
If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment...... Free Shipping World Wide. Thank you for your interest and I hope that I can help you with your collection.....Life and History on a Card",,,,Visit My store: HartsCardCart
