STRONG 1840'S 1/6 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE - GENT & BOOK - TINTED FACE - IN FULL CASE-He sat strong and held a book to steady his pose on this day during the 1840's. I must compliment him on his choice of waistcoats and spot on styling to have his likeness captured. A near perfect exposure was created and then after the image was processed, a dusting of warmth added to complete his sixth plate portrait. A solid sixth plate is what you are considering in my listing. Good luck to the winner!
CONDITION:Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this cased image and as part of my description. The 1/6 plate daguerreotype has been resealed with P90 and new glass applied. The gentleman's portrait has near prefect contrast, tonal range and sharpness. Warm hand tinting was expertly applied to his face.There are no wipes or dings to this plate. Some typical buffing lines can be seen at certain angles, but overall a spectacular effort on both the artist and sitter's part. The case has the original hinge although the exterior portion has split, the interior is solid. The working latch is present and a bold red velvet pillow lies adjacent to his portrait. The exterior of the case has tons of wear, but still provides protection of the fine plate. I will carefully ship this item to the winner by way of Priority Mail.
