SPECTACULAR EDGCOMB-PYLE TYPE AM ROTARY SPARK GAP FOR USE UP TO 1KW:
$2200.00

Please take the time to review all my other listings after you have looked at this one! I will be listing a broad and diverse range of Vintage Communications and Technology items, related Books, Periodicals and Ephemera...something for everyone! The Edgcomb-Pyle Wireless Mfg. Co. was formed in 1912 by A.J. Edgcomb, W. D. Pyle and E.B. Alder. Located in Western Pennsylvania, the company produced high quality commercial and amateur radio equipment until sometime in 1915 when they were apparently purchased by Pittsburg Wireless Equipment Co.
During WWI, A. J. Edgcomb moved to California and ultimately created The Wireless Shop just in time to provide quality wireless equipment for the amateur radio community as they emerged again after the WWI radio ban was lifted. The Wireless Shop remained in business in the Los Angeles area until the mid-1920\'s.
Since Edgcomb-Pyle Wireless was only in business for about two years, it is extraordinary to find any equipment today, much less preserved as well as this item!
Here is an Edgcomb-Pyle Type AM Rotary Spark Gap for use up to 1KW transmitting power. True to the nature of the company\'s dedication to quality, nothing was spared in its construction. The motor is a series, universal type that can operate on alternating or direct current, up to 110 volts. Attached to the motor shaft is the spark wheel made from Bakelite with replaceable brass spark studs fitted to a polished copper ring. The stationary gaps are of an aluminum alloy and supported by brass standards that include the binding posts. Everything is then mounted to a heavy white marble base for stability and performance quality.
The device has aged in wonderful fashion and is a robust example of early wireless construction from the 1912-1914 era. There are a few chips in the marble base, but they only add to the history when you sit and look at this Gap! There is a great Edgcomb-Pyle Wireless tag attached to the front of the marble base and a small inventory tag from a previous collector stuck to the top which remains in place. A previous owner also attached a felt bottom to the marble...
The catalog photos are from a 1914 Edgcomb-Pyle Wireless Company catalog in my personal library and depict the Type AM Rotary Gap and show the same device in the foreground of the Factory Sales Room showcase... As you can see from the photographs, this is a wonderful example of wireless history that will perfectly display on any collection shelf! I can smell the ozone...The unit is 9\" long, 5\" deep and stands about 6.5\" tall.
Shipping weight will be about 16 pounds.
If you are looking for that great addition to your wireless collection, this Edgcomb-Pyle Rotary Spark Gap might be for you!
I will pack this item properly and with great care. I have been shipping these kinds of vintage materials worldwide since the 1980\'s. Buyer is responsible for shipping and insurance. I usually ship within one business day after receipt of confirmed payment...
THANK YOU FOR LOOKING!
