SMALL EARLY 19TH CENTURY OVAL NEEDLEWORK OF A YOUNG BOY, GIRL & BIRD - c.1830:

Small early 19th century needlework - c.1830 or slightly later. Worked in wool on a silk backing, this little needlework is just delightful with fine quality stitch and paint work throughout. The scene is a winsome one of a young girl and boy sitting on an expanse of grass dotted with flowers with the girl's bonnet on the ground beside her. The girl showing her companion the bird's nest she is holding in her hands whilst a bird swoops in the cloudy blue sky above them. This charming scene is framed by fields, trees and shrubs with a building in the distance to the left.The backing silk has has overall discolouration consistent with its age with some small areas of damage in the sky which appear stable. The needlework is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse,but the colours of the wool and paint appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. The needlework in contained within its seemingly original good quality water gilded frame with verre eglomise oval glass. Both are in good condition with the glass retaining all of its paint and the frame with some scratches and scuff marks, a small loss to each of the lower corners and age related rubbing to the gilding. The penultimate photo is of the needlework lying flat to show the gold paintwork on the glass, the lower arc of which is obscured in the upright photographs.
Measures 12 3/4" x 9 1/4"(sight size) and 16 3/4" x 13 1/2" including the frame.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT I HAVE USED A NEW CAMERA TO TAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS AND I AM STRUGGLING WITH THE COLOUR BALANCE (something I'm STILL working on!!) AS SUCH, SOME OF MY PHOTOS HAVE A SLIGHTLY FIERY OR YELLOWISH LOOK TO THEM WHICH IS NOT THE CASE, IT'S JUST MY INCOMPETENCE!PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE NEEDLEWORK ITSELF.
