SITZENDORF EXTREMELY RARE VINTAGE SURREALIST ANIMAL PORCELAIN FIGURINE. 1918?:

This little mystery piece is undoubtedly handmade by a very skilled potter. The impressed Sitzendorf mark can’t really be tied down to any one time period as it has been used since 1918. The mark is very clear, the word ”Germany” is a little more faint, but is easily read. The production number 28448 in the photo is easily seen as well.To me, it shouts Art Deco.The combination dog-salamander is mindful of surrealist Salvador Dali’s work beginning in 1925. It could be a trinket tray or even an ashtray. The porcelain is very thin and translucent, with the base being thicker and heavier. I have researched this piece for the last 40 years of my ownership, and have no comparisons to make. If you think I am out-of-line with the pricing, please tell me why you think so.
