I\'m pleased to offer this specimen of Hubnerite with Scheelite in Quartz from the Hatfield mine, Chewuch district, Okanogan County, Washington. The specimen measures 2.83 x 1.90 x .88 inches or 7.19 x 4.83 x 2.22cm.
This piece shows much very dark red black hubnerite blades frozen in quartz with very thin scheelite mineralization intimately associated with the hubnerite. The scheelite is almost impossible to see absent shortwave UV light--virtually all of the dark hubnerite areas show bright bluish-white fluorescence under shortwave UV light as a result of this scheelite film. There are no lenses or pods of scheelite but rather it can be seen over about a third of the display face by its fluorescent response.
The Hatfield (or Wolframite Tungsten claim) was discovered in 1898 but didn\'t produce until 1916. It was worked sporadically until 1942 and lay dormant ever since. It was mined for tungsten but also produced a very little silver and zinc.
