Unworn SADF South African nutria brown long-sleeved bush shirt.Manufactured in 1990 by Endeavour in Mandini (KwaZulu Natal).Size Medium (SADF size 102), meaning that garment measures chest 43\" , back seam 31\" , sleeve 25\".
\"As early as the 1970s, the South African Defense Force (SADF) anticipated most of the developments in counter-insurgency, \'small wars,\' and arid weather operations that only came into currency in the US and UK decades later in Iraq and Afghanistan. In particular, the SADF led the way for \'soldier systems,\' the individual items of soldiers\' kit and clothing. Their unique trademark nutria brown was a descendent of Boer War earth tones and the predecessor of the USMC\'s \'coyote brown.\' Occupying a middle ground between olive drab and khaki, it is equally useful in shadowed forest and sun-baked desert.
\"Among the SADF\'s innovations was an early move from cotton for hot weather uniforms to a cotton-poly blend that wicked sweat off the skin better but still dried quickly, and even more important proved almost indestructible. It is common to see items of SADF uniform manufactured 30+ years ago that stayed in service until 2015 (when the last of the nutria was withdrawn from use) and still are in good condition.
\"Manufacture ended in the mid-1990s and surplus stocks have finally been exhausted. Individual items can be found second-hand in the UK and Australia, particularly in extra-small and extra-large, but supplies have largely dried up.\"
