There is a theory that Yoshitaro Kamakura and Fuyu Inami came up with this definition, but Yoshitaro Kamakura first used it in 1924. It was during the Showa period that the kanji notation for ``Bingata\'\' began to be widely used. Okinawa Prefecture is often written in hiragana as \"Bingata\" \".
