This is a first class replica of a hand carved Haida argillite totem pole. Argillite of this type is only found on the Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada, and can only be bought by Haida Indian craftsmen. I thought this was real, but it tests as resin in that a hot needle catches in it. It fooled me when I bought it, and is an excellent piece of art.
This one is 4.25 tall. Not sure what the small top figure is. Looks like a bear but is pretty small. The middle figure is Sea Otter (note how he is holding his long tail). Not sure what the bottom figure is either - some kind of sea creature (note the fins instead of arms), and I don\'t know which of them has what appears to be a furry chest. Like Picasso, Haida artists tend to put features anywhere they look good, so long as there is decoration everywhere and the composition is powerful. I think this little piece is great.
NOTE - All Haida argillite sculptures are dark black, and are hard to photograph. I have brightened these pictures to show the details.
