LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL COLISEUM & SPORTS ARENA

The Rolling Stones' Tattoo You Tour in 1981 was one of the band's most iconic and ambitious tours. Supporting their album "Tattoo You," which features hits like "Start Me Up" and "Waiting on a Friend," the tour marked the band's first American outing since 1978. The tour consisted of 50 shows across the United States, beginning on September 25, 1981, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and concluding on December 19, 1981, in Hampton, Virginia. Known for its grandiosity, the tour featured elaborate stage designs and an unprecedented level of production for the time, setting a new standard for rock concerts.

The show at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on October 9, 1981, was particularly memorable. It drew an enormous crowd, showcasing the Stones' enduring popularity. Opening acts for this tour included Prince, who faced a tough crowd at this particular show, as the audience was less receptive to his performance. Despite this, the Rolling Stones delivered an electrifying set that included classics like "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Brown Sugar," and "Honky Tonk Women." The concert is remembered not just for its music but also for the vibrant atmosphere and the sheer energy of the performance, which exemplified the Stones' ability to captivate large audiences with their stage presence and musical prowess.

The Tattoo You Tour is often credited with revitalizing the band's career, demonstrating their ability to evolve with the times while maintaining their rock and roll roots. The tour's success further cemented the Rolling Stones' status as one of the greatest live rock acts in history.
