You are offerding on an ANTIQUE roll sign in signbox from an R1 through R9 class New York Subway car. There were 1702 cars in this series. It took almost 10 years and three different contractors to complete the jobs - The American Car and Foundry, Pullman Standard, and The Pressed Steel Car Company. There were 2 signboxes on each car. Each signbox had 3 different rollsigns: The upper & middle were for destinations & the lower was for routes. This was the upper or number 1 rollsign box.
Signbox was bead blasted & repainted. Some scratches. Rollsign has original dirt, a stain or 2 & a small tape repair on the blank leader. Please see pictures for condition. Destinations include: WEST 4TH STREET BROAD CHANNEL 36TH STREET-4TH AVE. 57TH STREET WASH. HTS-207TH ST. WASH. HTS-168TH ST. CONCOURSE 205TH ST. CONCOURSE - BEDFORD PK JAMAICA - 179TH ST. QUEENS - FOREST HILLS COURT ST. - BORO HALL NO PASSENGERS SPECIAL The signbox measures approximately 30 inches x 8 inches by 7 inches. It is made of metal with a brass crank handle.Sign is made of vellum.
