This Japanese saw ornokogiriwas hand forged by the Japanese master blade maker, Nakamura Genkichi and sold by Banshu (see picture 2).It is the most popular type of saw used in woodworking and Japanese carpentry with both rip and cross cut teeth that cut on the pull stroke, unlike European saws which cut on the push stroke. This allows it to have a thinner blade that cuts more efficiently and leaves a narrower cut width (see pictures 8 & 9). Made of a high qualitylaminatedcarbon steel and carefully milled by hand. It has the blade smiths name hand edched on its forged iron blade. (see pictue 2).
Note the smaller teeth toward the handle end of the blade (see picture 11). This was used to help make an efficient starting cut before proceeding with the larger teeth. This saw is new old stock and has never been used. The handle it has been paired with new-old stock bamboo wrapped cryptomeria wood (see pictures 18 & 19) in very fine condition. We currently have a similar one listed without handle (see picture 20)(check sailerking listings).This Ryba-nokogiri saw is complete with all teeth sharp and , having never been used,remains inexcellentconditionthroughout, as seen in the enlarged pictures..Measures 30" overall (76 cm) including handle. With a blade length (teeth area) of 11 1/2" long by 4 3/4" wide (29 x 12 cm).
