Longaberger Pottery Heirloom Ivory Tumbler. This is one of the early vitrified china pieces made in Ohio for the Longaberger Company. When Longaberger decided to sell pottery, they looked to local Ohio (USA) potteries that take pride in their products made and crafted in America. The pottery in the beginning was an Ivory White with the Company’s raised design to represent weaving on their baskets. All Tole designs were painted by hand. Southwest and Eastern Ohio was once considered the world’s pottery capital. Longaberger partnered with these knowledgeable potteries to produce the finest high quality ingredients for the clay, glazing, decorating, and firing of the Longaberger pottery products. This vitrified pottery is fired at 2000 degrees to produce a product that is safe in the oven, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher. This, also, prevents it from crazing, chipping, or cracking. When demand increased and the smaller Ohio potteries could no longer meet the demand, it was outsourced to China.
I purchased a set of 12 place settings in Woven Traditions Pottery in the 90s when it first came out and I am still using them today. I drink my coffee out of one of the mugs every morning. In the years I have had the pottery, none have broken or cracked except for the time my son, as a teenager, decided to test a coffee cup by using a basketball 3 pointer from across the kitchen into the sink. The only thing that broke was the handle came off where it was applied to the cup. You can use this in the bathroom, kitchen, for drinks and also, for candies, nuts, condiments, sewing supplies, game pieces, and the list goes on. It is a substantial piece of pottery. You can see the kiln marks on the bottom showing this piece was made by hand. This is not a product you buy today and throw away tomorrow. I will be listing more pottery in the future. I am now retired and downsizing for my new chapter in life.
