McCoy Family Members

Randolph \"Ole Ran\" McCoy born on October 30, 1825 and was the patriarch of the McCoy clan involved in the feud. His nemesis was William \"Devil Anse\" Anderson Hatfield. Old Randall died of burns from a fire in the home of his nephew on March 28, 1914.

Fannie (McCoy) Charles, daughter of Ole Ran McCoy. Survived the feud and lived to be 72 years old. She died in Mingo County, West Virginia in 1943.

James \"Jim\" McCoy, son of Ole Ran McCoy and survivor of the feud, later he became Sheriff of Pike County, Kentucky!!He died on August 30, 1929 and is buried in Boyd County, Kentucky in the Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Floyd McCoy, another of Ole Ran\'s sons, he was born in 1858 in Pike County, Kentucky. Was a miner. Died on June 1, 1928, in Wayne County, West Virginia.

Charlie McCoy, grandson of Ole Ran McCoy. Was crushed to death in a coal mine on Jan. 31, 1913 in Coal Run Village, Pike County, Kentucky.

Martha Elizabeth Jackson McCoy, wife of Samuel McCoy (daughter-in-law to Ole Randall)

Hatfield Family Members

WilliamAnderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield, thepatriarch of the Hatfield family.Born on September 9, 1830, he served in the Civil War in the Confederacyand reached the rank of captain. His claim to fame, as it were, was for leadinghis family against the family of Randolph McCoy. They fought in one of thebloodiest and most well-known feuds in American history. He was instrumental inthe execution of McCoy boys Tolbert, Pharmer and Bud, as well as being presentduring the Battle of Grapevine Creek before most of his sons and friends werearrested for the murder of the McCoys. Devil Anse died on January 6, 1921 from pneumonia at age 81 inLogan County, West Virginia. His death record here, is divided into two 81/1x11 inch parts for easy reading since it comes from the death register.

Levicy (Levisa) Hatfield was the wife of William Anderson \'Devil Anse\' Hatfield and died in West Virginia in 1929 at the age of 86!

Tennison Hatfield, son of Devil Anse Hatfield, the youngest son, he died August 12, 1953 in Logan County, WV Tennison is alleged to have made the handshake that ultimately SETTLED THE FEUD once and for all in 1928.

Dr. Elliot Rutherford Hatfield, son of Devil Anse, died in Charleston, WV in 1932 at the age of 59

Smith Hatfield, brother of Devil Anse, born in Mingo County, West Virginia on May 23, 1855, he died in Huntington in 1937.

Elizabeth \"Betty\" Hatfield Caldwell was the daughter of Devil Anse Hatfield. Born in Logan County, West Virginia, she lived to be 85 years old.

Nancy Arvella \"Belle\" Hatfield Vance Mullins was born on Aug. 13, 1869, daughter of \"Devil Anse\" and \"Levicy\" Hatfield. She died April 30, 1939 in Logan County, West Virginia.

Valentine Hatfield, nephew to Devil Anse Hatfield (son of the Ellison Hatfield who was killed by Tolbert Pharmer, and Bud McCoy in 1882)

Wetzel Hatfield, nephew to Devil Anse (son of the Ellison Hatfield who was killed by Tolbert Pharmer, and Bud McCoy in 1882) He died of appendicitis in 1923.

Floyd Hatfield, nephew to Devil Anse (son of the Ellison Hatfield who was killed by Tolbert Pharmer, and Bud McCoy in 1882) He died at age 77 in Matewan, Mingo County, West Virginia.
