This medium rectangular black lacquer hinged box was painted by master artist Nikitin in the village of Frdodko. It measures 3 1/2" long, by 2 1/2" wide by 1 1/16" high. Ir is signed on the top and has a note inside describing the piece. This lovely piece is in very good gently used condition, as seen in the photos. - Fedoskino lacquer boxes are crafted using a unique technique on papier-mâché. Unlike other villages, Fedoskino artists apply oil paints in multiple layers, resulting in intricate and vibrant designs.
- These boxes often incorporate mother-of-pearl (both river and freshwater), pure gold or silver leaf, and metallic powders mixed into the paints.
- Nikitin’s Artistry:
- Nikita Alexeev (also known as Alexei Nikitin) is a prominent artist associated with Fedoskino lacquer boxes.
- His unique creations are displayed in catalogs dedicated to Russian lacquer art. Nikitin is a member of the Artist Union of the USSR and has participated in exhibitions both in Russia and abroad.
