Afteryears of declining revenues and a total shut down as a result of anemployee walkout, the Rutland Railway faded into the history books atthe end of 1963. The Vermont Railway, Green MountainRailroad, and Clarendon & Pittsford took over rail operations ofmuch of the former Rutland Railway in Vermont as a result.Thestate of Vermont purchased the Burlington to Bennington segment fromthe Rutland estate, which became the new Vermont Railway in 1964.Also following in 1965 was the creation of the Green Mountain Railwayon the Bellows Falls to Rutland segment. In 1972, marble-haulingshortline Clarendon & Pittsford was acquired by Vermont Railwayand brought into the fold.Thisbook is a great historical review containing excellent equipmentroster shots and detailed descriptions of early operations from thefinal days of the Rutland Railway right up to the mid-1980s.Softbound,11x8.5, 76 pages, text, many photographs w/extensive captions.
