Invasion Month - 7 September 1940 signed by Luftwaffe Oberstleutnant Hans-Joachim Jabs

Cover produced for the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Cover depicts the RAF roundel stating Battle of Britain, the Squadron crest for 1 Squadron and that of 3 Staffel Kampfgeschwader I. Cover also depicts the first attack on London at 16.40 hours, a Messerschmitt BF109 of I/JG 51 which was shot down over London on 7th September 1940 and the London Docks ablaze at 17.00hrs. Cover bears 20p regional defin cancelled with BFPS 2252 on 50th Anniversary of the First Attack on Berlin on 25th August 1990.
Cover has been flown in Tornado F3 of 111 Squadron in a Fighter Sweep of 4 Tornado\'s against 8 Harrier GR1s in rememberance of the fighter patrols made by 111 Squadron from Croydon and then Debden during the Battle of Britain.

Oberstleutnant Hans-Joachim Jabs

A Knight\'s Cross with Oak leaves holder, Jabs began his military career in 1936 serving with JG344 which later became ZG76. He flew the ME110 during the Battle of Britain and got 12 victories during the battle. He joined the Night Figter unit 9/NJG3 in November 1941. He was Staffelkapitan of 11/NJG1 at the end of 1942. An accomplished pilot who spent most of his career flying the Messerschmitt 110, he became Kommodore of NJG1 Night Fighter unit in March 1944 and ended the war with 50 victories of which 19 were day and 31 night. He was awarded the Knights Cross during the Battle of Britain on 1st October 1940. He was awarded the Oakleaves on 24th March 1944 which was incidently the last major raid on Berlin.
