Photo features a view of the Skjervsfossen waterfall along the Norwegian Scenic Route of Hardanger.
The Norwegian Scenic Route Hardanger leads through a mighty fjord landscape and lets drivers pass close to the fjord, mountains, waterfalls, and fruit farms. Hardanger itself is a traditional district in the western part of Norway, dominated by the Hardangerfjord and its inner branches of the Sørfjorden and the Eid Fjord. It consists of the municipalities of Ullensvang, Eidfjord, Ulvik and Kvam, and is located inside the county of Vestland.

Narve Skarpmoen (1868-1930) came from the farm Skarpmoen in Rollag, Numedal, and worked as a photographer in Kristiania (Oslo) & eastern Norway in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He was a press photographer of current events for newspapers and periodicals, and he documented many elements of social life from poverty to sporting events. He worked as a photographer in a time of major social change. He held several positions in photographers\' organizations, including board member of the Norwegian Photographers\' Association and chairman of the Oslo Photographers Association, chairman of the Test Board for Photographers in Oslo and member of the central board of Oslo Craft and Industry Association.
For is text in the bottom of the photo, incorporated into the film negative, which reads,
