Post Office Door Bank #2548 -Circa 1920 -Double Dial- Myrtle Wood :
$94.00

This Post Office Door was made by Keyless Lock circa 1920. It\'s almost a true antique. It\'s made of cast bronze and features a flying eagle on a sunburst background. It\'s opened with a 3 digit combination which is taped to the bottom of the bank.

There is a coin slot in the top and the bank is about 5 inches wide, 6 inches high and 4 1/4 inches deep.It\'s a perfect gift for anyone, any age. Teach a child to save. Help an adult relive their past. The door is made of bronze and is a double dial. To open the door you turn each dial to a specific letter and push the knob to the right. The combination is taped to the bottom. All of the doors I use in these banks had many years of service in a Post Office. Many of them like this one are over 100 years old. I\'ve rebuilt them, cleaned off the grime and got the locks working smoothly. They are true works of art deco. I use number decals that were surplused from the Post Office to put the numbers in the windows.

Like with most of the wood I use this wood isreclaimed. The cabinet is made with old growth myrtle. I like to trydifferent woods in my banks. I ran across some myrtle and have really enjoyedthe result. It\'s a beautiful hardwood with a tight grain. It’s very dense andheavy. This old growth wood was harvested over 50 years ago. A gentleman hadcut the tree down, milled the wood and made his kitchen cabinets from it. 50years or more passed and the remainder was unused. I was able to purchase thewood from his widow after the man passed away. She was going to haul it to thedump. The back of the bank in particular is a conversation starter. It\'s one my favorites. I think this adds interest to the bank and documents its age. I’ve worked with the wood as I found it.
