Description: A beautiful polished slice of a lacustrine oncolite fossil of Upper Cretaceous age from Lady of Angels Lake in Chihuahua, Mexico. Oncolites are layered sedimentary structures formed by cyanobacterial growth. They are very similar to stromatolites, but instead of forming domes/columns, they form spherical structures. This one has been polished on one face.
