Plaster casting, date unknown, made from a 1913 bronze bas-relief plaque of a portrait of author Jack London, originally designed by sculptor Finn Haakon Frolich (1868-1947). There are two known originals of this plaque, which were originally installed in the Thompson Library (Main Library) at The Ohio State University. One of these is in the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian and the other is in private hands, reportedly having been appraised at one point for $8000.
I acquired this plaque at an sale in Alameda, California, near Oakland. I have no information on how or when this piece was produced but it is identical in size and design to the original bronze plaques.
It measures about 16 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches by 1/2 inch, showing Jack London in a high relief, detailed profile view. The plaque is inscribed below London\'s image \"F H Frolich Glen Ellen 1913.\"The plaster has been painted to appear metallic. There are a few tiny chips in the paint. Overall condition is very good with no cracks or losses to the piece.
