Characteristics: A large Plainview stone of 330 grams from the Nininger collection with painted inventory number 92.500. An atypical flat stone with one broken face (see pictures for condition) – The Plainview meteorite find is a good example of an early Nininger success story: Nininger enquired in 1928 about the location of a meteorite found in 1915 near Plainview, in Texas. In 1933, back from a failed trip to Mexico, Nininger and his brother went onsite, knocking on farmers doors to ask if strange stones had been found in the area. Promising to pay a dollar a pound, many meteorites turned up, to Nininger’s delight. It was the beginning of what would be a spectacular campaign that would yield over 900 meteorites in a 15-year period of time.
