1.8lb lot of rough, unworked pastel lapidary material. This unique material is referred to as both Brushy Basin Opalized Chert as well as Opalitic Morrison Chert because it comes from the Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation in Utah (163-145 million years old). This beautiful colored chert was used as one of the primary lithic materials in the geographic region it is found and you often discover that some of the pieces are fossils from the Upper Jurassic period. Material tends to be opaque with opalized or transparent bands in spots.
