This neat cover was sent by a U.S. Navy purser by the last name of Stockton, to then-Commodore Hiram Paulding, Commanding U.S. Navy Yard, Washington, D.C., U.S.A., on June 12, 1855. Purser Stockton was stationed at the U.S. Navy Yard in Pensacola, Florida, or on a warship then in port!
To continue, the rust, 3-Cent, \"Washington,\" issue(Scott # 10A, 11, or 11A) is in very good-fine condition! It looks to have 3, if not 4, margins! The SOTN balloon CDS from the Warrington P.O. is pretty nice!
Lastly, as for thecondition of the envelope, itself, it\'s fair considering it\'s 169 years old. It\'s obviously stained to a degree. Outside of a small tear in it, the back flap is intact. There are a number of small tears around its sides, and a piece of the lower, back flap has been torn out at some time in the past.Notedimperfections aside, this is still a really nifty piece of U.S. Naval postal history connected to the then-well-known, U.S. Navy Commodore Hiram Paulding and U.S. Navy Purser Stockton!
